What is Electrical Acupuncture?

Electro-acupuncture is a subset of acupuncture. In traditional acupuncture, individual tiny needles are inserted into the acupoints. Electro-acupuncture works similarly, with an added electric component. The practitioner passes a mild electric current through the needles during the treatment. The electrical stimulation is not painful, it is more of a gentle vibration that further stimulates those points. Typically, the needles are shorter because they have a stronger stimulus.
The reason to choose this method is that it is known to enhance the healing effects of acupuncture by stimulating the points for natural healing. Electro-acupuncture has been especially effective for treating neurological diseases, paralysis, chronics pain, and spasms. It combines especially well with acupressure to promote blood flow, muscle warmth, pain relief, and removal of blood stasis.
First, the acupuncturist will assess your symptoms and determine the best points for treatment. Then, they will insert one needle at the treatment point and another one nearby. The acupuncturist will then turn the electrodes on and adjust the frequencies. The session will last between 10 and 20 minutes. Epigenetics refers to the study of biological mechanisms which can turn genes on and off. This means even if someone is born with a specific gene, it does not necessarily mean they will have the trait the gene is associated with. The gene may or may not be expressed based on the environment and actions of the body.

Both acupuncture and electro-acupuncture have been shown to be able to affect the expression of certain genes, meaning it is possible to positively change your gene expression with electro-acupuncture. Stem cells refer to raw undifferentiated biological cells that can transform to daughter cells and then either turn into new stem cells (self-renewal) or differentiate and become specialised cells such as brain cells, heart cells, blood cells etc. No other cell has the ability to generate new cell types, making stem cells extremely unique and important in the repair of the body.
